6a architects has been awarded a 2012 Erich Schelling Medal for Architecture.

Since 1992 the Erich Schelling Foundation and University of Karlsruhe have awarded biennial prizes for seminal design ideas and contributions to the theory and history of architecture, both to practicing architects and academics across the world. Kenneth Frampton and Al Borde Arquitectos received the 2012 prizes, with medals awarded to 6a architects and AFF Architekten.

6a architects refurbishment of the v&a Fashion Gallery has been nominated for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture - Mies van der Rohe Award 2013. The award is granted every two years to acknowledge quality architectural production in Europe.

6a architects has collaborated with Turner Prize nominated artist Luke Fowler on this year’s exhibition at Tate Britain. The artist’s film All Divided Selves (2011) explores the legacy of psychiatrist R.D. Laing and is screened alongside a series of diptych format photographs. Texiles were produced by Elizabeth Radcliffe. The exhibition is open until 6 January 2013.

Tom Emerson will participate in a round table discussion at the Salon Suisse as part of the 13th International Architecture Biennale, Venice. Organised by the Swiss Arts Council and the British Council the discussion will be titled Nature? The contexts and cultures of practice, and building as continual research.

Other guests will include Emanuel Christ, Nicholas Lobo Brennen, Elli Mosayebi, Andrea Deplazes and will be chaired by Irina Davidovici. The talk will be held at:

6a architects has designed a new London showroom for Italian furniture manufacturer Arper.

The fashion gallery at the Victoria and Albert Museum reopens on 19th May 2012 following an extensive refurbishment by 6a architects. The gallery will house the fashion collection and temporary exhibitions for the next decade.

6a architects was awarded a 2012 D&AD Award for the exhibition Wim Crouwel: a graphic odyssey at the Design Museum, London. 

The catalogue for the Mies van der Rohe Award, the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture, has been published. 6a architects was nominationed for both the South London Gallery and Raven Row. The exhibition accompanying the award is travelling internationally visiting Chicago, London, Paris, Düsseldorf, Novi Sad, Copenhagen and Milan. The next location will be the M-Museum, Leuven, Belgium.

6a architects was awarded a 2012 Civic Trust Award Commendation for the South London Gallery. 

6a architects has designed the first exhibition of the collection of historic textiles assembled by Seth Siegelaub for the Center for Social Research on Old Textiles (CSROT) on display at Raven Row, 01.03–06.05.2012
